" "I will remember snorkeling arm and arm with my new husband, listening to the
dolphins talking to each other in the water (amazing!)...lazing in the
hammock watching the moon on the water..."

Waitabu Marine Park: This area of Taveuni has just been awarded the "International British Airways Eco-Tourism Award" of the year. You are picked up and driven up to the eastern side of the island where you will be welcomed into Waitabu village life with morning tea. This 5-hour journey includes a bamboo "bili-bili" raft trip, snorkeling, and am/pm tea in the village with kava ceremony, local island music and roundtrip transport. This trip is a great cultural experience combined with a day of adventure!
Vidawa Forest Walk: This trip is amazing, but definitely requires some ambition and physical effort. We recommend that you are fairly fit to take part in this hike, as it is a full day trip. You start off in Vidawa Village and hike through one of the finest rain forests in Fiji. Bouma Falls is where the hike ends and a relaxing swim in the crystal clear water will make a perfect end to the journey. Your personal guide, Aisake, is one of the most charming & knowledgeable people on our island when it comes to forest plants, birds and other wildlife. Its a workout and island education all wrapped into one fun day!

Bouma Falls Hike:
The Bouma waterfalls are located in a pristine Heritage Park just a half-hour taxi or bus ride to the eastern side of the Island through Bouma village. This is a neat half or full-day trip that will lead you meandering through rainforests, across rivers and up to gorgeous waterfalls. You will enjoy the sights & sounds of rare tropical birds and waterfalls cascading through the lush rainforests surrounding you. You can take it easy and stop at the first falls, which is a short flat walk and requires little physical effort. Or you can step it up a notch and head up to the next falls, which requires a bit more skill and energy, however the views make it worthwhile! You can picnic, swim and hike either way. For those of you with a real adventurous spirit there is a third level hike up to yet another waterfall. The natural beauty surrounding this area is definitely something you won't want to miss!

Lavena Coastal Kayaking or Coastal Walk:
Lavena is the furthest point you can travel on the eastern side of the island. This is a great adventure walk beginning along a beautiful white sandy beach with rock pools. Continuing on you will ford rivers, pass through remote villages ultimately leading you to a gorgeous trio of cascading waterfalls! You can slide down or jump from the falls into the crystal clear rock pools. The walk will take you about an hour and a half each way. You will want to allow at least an hour at the falls for swimming and exploration. Alternatively, we also recommend the coastal kayak trip. This can be done on a separate day or you can kayak one way and walk back - it's up to you and the tides of course!
Waitavala Natural Waterslide: Waitavala rockslide is a natural wonder of Taveuni. It is located in the midst of the beautiful tropical bush at the more Southern end of the Island. It is best to go during the times of year when the rainfall has been higher and also on weekends or school holidays when the Fijian kids are there to show you how its done!

Wairiki Mission Church:
This is the most architecturally interesting structure on the island. The Fijian singing is something you will never forget. Seeing this church and listening to the music is a great Fijian cultural experience.

Other Sightseeing Points of Interest in Taveuni:
Each new day begins in Taveuni as the 180 degree Meridian or International Date Line is a famous landmark that runs through Taveuni. You can also continue your sightseeing adventure to the furthest point on the Southern end of the island to Vuna Village and coastal blowhole. Also for the adventurous there is a famous geographical landmark in Taveuni known as Lake Tagimaucia. It is situated on an extinct volcanic crater. The lake is filled with vegetation and is the home of the tangimaucia flower indigenous to Taveuni. The route to view this is highly dependent on the weather and conditions of terrain.

Diving:
The best diving in Taveuni is based on the world famous Rainbow Reef - a 20 Mile reef that extends into the Somosomo Strait. There are two excellent dive operations that cater to all levels of expertise and can be as challenging or relaxing as you wish. Both dive operations are located within two minutes of Taveuni Palms, we are happy to help arrange your trips and transfers. Please see our diving page for further details.

Snorkeling: There are many beautiful spots to snorkel while in Taveuni. Depending on your desires we can arrange boating excursions to remote outer islands surrounded by beautiful reefs great for snorkeling. You can venture out to the reefs just in front of Taveuni Palms. The famous "Korolevu” which is one of Taveuni's renowned spots for seeing lots of colorful fish and beautiful soft and hard coral, is located at the South end of the Island. It too is a fantastic spot for snorkeling and we can easily arrange day trips to take you out to this gorgeous island for an amazing day of snorkeling!

Horseback Riding:
You can choose to ride locally in Matei up to the top of the Maravu Coconut Plantation, which is just 5 minutes down the road. Alternatively, there is a trip available with a local guide all the way at the Southern end of the Island in Vuna. Here they will guide you on a 2-3 hour ride up the beautiful rugged mountain side to an elevation of 1000 feet where you will view the famous Twin Craters, the entire Somosomo straight and of course the beautiful Taveuni countryside.

Deep Sea Fishing:
For the serious fisherman just give us the word and we will line you up with the best of them! We have a great locally operated fishing operation that uses a 35 foot launch and state of the art fishing gear which will sweep you out into the South Pacific waters for an unforgettable day of fishing.
Sailing: There is a gorgeous 70 foot sailing schooner that we can arrange to take you on a full days journey to outer islands for snorkeling, sightseeing and lunch.

Boating:
Taveuni Palms can arrange boat charters for guests to outer islands. Whether it is snorkeling, diving, fishing, outer island exploration and sightseeing - you name it! (Please see our "Boating Excursions" section for more details.)
Golf or Tennis Club: Soqulu has a small beautiful 9-hole course right along the coast. You can rent clubs if you'd like to play a round. They also have tennis rackets available if you are so inclined! You can plan to have a drink or lunch by the pool at the clubhouse after your day of sporting!

Other Ideas
: Aside from the above-mentioned adventures, there are many great things to do right here around Taveuni Palms. Kayak down the coast or to nearby little islands, snorkel on the reefs out in front, swim/float in the ocean or pool, learn to do some local crafts or ethnic cooking. Why not spoil yourself with an island massage, manicure or pedicure! Also remember to take advantage of our book, games and DVD selections if you would like to just hang out and relax.
