> Boating Excursions
We have selected three boating excursions that we feel
are the best trips to give you a wide range of exposure
to a variety of settings and cultural experiences during
your visit to Taveuni. They are all absolutely amazing trips
and quite different from one another – we encourage you
to take advantage of seeing Taveuni’s surrounding outer
island beauty by boat!
Yanuca : A one to one and a half hour journey North
of Taveuni by boat to a small group of outer islands known
as Yanuca Islands (pronounced "ya-new-tha"). You will first
arrive by boat to the main village where you will present
the village chief with a "sevu-sevu" (a Fijian customary
gift of yaqona/kava). This is a polite way of introducing
yourself and asking permission to see their village and
utilize the surrounding beaches for the day. A short traditional
ceremony of kava drinking will take place and then you will
be welcomed into the village. You can tour through the local
school, church, meeting hall, see traditional village housing,
all while being surrounded by local people performing their
daily work or chores. It is a wonderful way to absorb yourselves
in true village life and customary Fijian living. Then you
will be taken to a nearby remote island where you can enjoy
privacy and a picnic lunch. Hike and explore the islands
surrounding panoramic views, then submerse yourselves in
the crystal clear lagoon for swimming and fantastic snorkeling.
After a relaxing and/or eventful couple of hours you will
be swept back to Taveuni as the sun begins to set ... it
is not at all an unlikely event to see schools of dolphins,
a pod of whale and other types of sea life. This trip includes
up to 5 hours usage of the boat with a guide, picnic lunch,
snorkeling gear, beach towels, beach chairs and rafts for
floating, sevu-sevu (gift for the village chief), and the
required sulu's (Fijian wrap around skirts) for acceptable
dress while in the village.
Kioa : A one-hour journey West of Taveuni to an
outer island called Kioa. It is a unique Fijian village
whose customs & dialect are very different. They are known
especially for their handmade and hand-woven arts and crafts.
You will first explore throughout the village while viewing
all the crafts they will have on display for purchase. Next,
you will jump back on board the boat and explore the perimeter
of the island until you come upon a beautiful secluded cove
for sunbathing, snorkeling, picnicking and exploration.
This trip includes up to 4 hours usage of the boat with
a guide, picnic lunch, snorkeling gear, beach gear, and
the required sulu's (Fijian wrap around skirts) for acceptable
village attire.
Qamea: A short journey out to a neighboring island
East of Taveuni. It is a great spot to hang out on the beach,
picnic and snorkel some of the surrounding beautiful reefs.
This package includes a boat guide, beach gear, snorkel
equipment and a picnic lunch.
